Default How to Beat Thunderhead

Just completed this mission, and I'll give people some tips.

Bring Trappers. Having 1-2 trappers really makes everything a lot easier. For every mob set up traps and get someone to pull them towards it.

Camp the King. Set up traps on the stairs, and near the king, and make sure everyone stays near the king.

Just 2 Monks. Don't take more than 2 Monks. Bring a Necro with Well of Blood, and Blood Ritual, it really helps. Minions aren't too bad either.

Nuker. Continual Meteor Showers and Firestorm really do help.

King. Casting Mending/Watchful Spirit on the King will help.

This is the build we had.

This would be better in the Tyrian Explorers' League, but I do have a comment.

You can do this mission with a variety of profession combinations. And if you're doing your job right, the King should rarely if ever be attacked. Tank + Enchanted Torch. Nuff said.

This would be better in one of the four or five topics already devoted to this cause.

Point: I kinda wonder why people are so surprised when they finish Thunderhead. It's not that hard.

It is when the group doesn't listen

Anything you try to do is screwed when the group doesn't listen. Except for solo farming and henchies.

That's the hard way to do it. Forget camping the king.

2 monks are optimal, I agree. I've done this mission several times, and I've found that guarding the gates is FAR easier. 1 tank per gate, standing in the doorway. 2 ranged attackers (eles, rangers, necros, mez all fall into this catagory) up on top near each gate firing the ballistas as often as needed, and attacking as needed as well. 1 monk per tank, keeping them alive. I find that standing a bit in back of the tank is easiest, but on top of the wall could work if someone so desired.

I've done the camp the king thing a couple times. It is SO much more difficult than just doing the gates. The ballistas really punish the mobs.

Forget the king. He's not going to be near the mobs, and as such won't need the support.

I like this mission. It's fun, and quite enjoyable to me. Please, take pity on your monks and just go with the gates. Much less healing, no deaths, no worries. Absolutely simple.

I agree that guarding the gates has a greater chance of success... however, it requires a much higher level of cooperation and communication, two things that your average PUG lacks severely. :P

This mission can be hard if people make it harder for themselves. Camping the gates is probably the most common way to make it really hard. Camping the king makes it simple.

Why? Enemies keep storming the gates, but only ONE GROUP AT A TIME SEEMS TO STORM THE KING. Take advantage of this by sticking together as a group and killing each group one by one very quickly. It can help to have one person on each catapult, but have that person join the party when a group arrives. This mission stressed me out so much with PuG's, but with henchmen, it wasn't only easy, but it felt like I was following an algorithm. The only tough part was when I made the mistake of aiming for a Jade Armor boss when a group started to arrive.

My advice for this mission is to use a pure henchmen group. Yes, it can be boring to not have a single other human with you, but it'll save you from all the anger of retrying because someone other than you made a mistake.

My basic overview...this mission requires intelligence, not brute force.
